Chewy's story
Updated: 7/2/2018
Hi, I'm Chewy!! I am 1-2 years old and weigh about 50 lbs. In spite of my name, I have been very weel-mannered, and haven't chewed anything I'm not to supposed to in my foster home (okay, I carried a shoe once). I'm a happy and energetic guy who likes to be in the middle of *everything*! No surprise, they say it's because I've got 'working dog' in me, but to me, it's all fun!! When I got to the GA shelter, they saw something special in me, so they sent me to stay with the smart ladies at the women's prison canine training program, where they taught me lots of manners and how to be a good dog. So I know things like sit, lie down, stay, give paw, heel - whatever you ask of me, just tell me!! If I don't know it, I can't wait to learn, I'm super eager to please you.
I'm fully house trained, I'll sleep in my crate if you want, but now my family leaves the door open so I can sleep where I want. I am also a good boy when you leave the house. I walk well on a leash with a training collar. You can touch my feet, clean my ears, grab my tail, check my teeth, I don't mind! And I ride well in the car, I like to be able to see the world from the window. I share my foster home with dogs from 6 months to 8 years old, and get along with them all! I have gone to daycare, and I liked that too. Toys of all kinds make me super happy, I like to chase stuff you throw, but then I like to run around so maybe you can chase me? I don't mind sharing food or toys, and I will do just about anything for a treat. I'm always friendly and happy, but I do take a bit of time to get comfortable with new people, I seem a bit stand-offish at first. But once I know that you're my friend, I love to give cuddles, and sleep on your feet, and maybe even a bit of a doggy smooch. I got to meet lots of kids at an adoption event and I really liked them, they're just about my size! I really want a family who knows how to be my leader, when I know you are in charge I can relax and just do whatever you ask of me!! I'd be a great running buddy, or working buddy, or pretty much anything that keeps me busy. But when I've had a chance to work out my brain *and* my body, I am happy to join you in some quiet time before bed.
I'm a handsome, fun, active guy who has been practicing for my new life - and now I'm ready to get this started. Tailwaggers has this cool thing where I can come hang out at your house for five whole days once you are an approved adopter to see if we like each other - I think that would be PAWSOME!!
Adoption Fee: $400.00
We are a Wisconsin state licensed dog rescue -WI# 402433

***We do not have a central adoption center at this time. All our dogs are in private foster homes within WI. At this time we only place our dogs in areas of WI. The breed of our dogs is our best guess with the help of our veterinarians.
Our Weight Classes are as follows:
0- 25lbs - Small
26- 45lbs - Medium
46-89 - Large
90+ X-large
If you are adopting an adult dog, which we consider 6 months of age or older, your adoption fee includes the following:
Spay/Neuter, Rabies and Distemper shots, dewormed, flea & tick preventative, heartworm tested and microchipped.
If you are adopting a dog younger than 6 months of age, the dog will be up to date on the shots as per the dogs age. The dog will be dewormed, flea/tick preventative and microchipped. We only spay/neuter our dogs by 6 months of age. If you decide to adopt a younger dog than 6 months of age, they will need to be spayed/neutered at one of our preferred clinics. This will be determined by your contract along with the month they should have their surgery. This is included in your adoption fee.
Once you are approved with our rescue, you can meet any one of our dogs within the fosters home. If you are interested in the dog you met, you can take the dog home under our mandatory foster to adopt program. You receive 5 days to see if the dog is the right fit for your home.
If it is, we will conduct the home visit and finalize adoption. If it is not, it is returned to the foster. We are happy to find you another dog that meets your needs in your home.
If a dog is listed as PENDING, a family has met the dog and planning on adopting the dog after the home visit has been conducted. We always suggest sending in an application for a dog because there are times where the dogs are given back to us under the foster to adopt program. There are many reasons dogs are returned but normally it just was not the right fit for all.
Please go to under HOW TO ADOPT . We have an online application that is very easy to fill out.
